Anne McEwan receives the award of OBE

Anne McEwan, founder of The British School of Barcelona (BSB), and current Education Advisor for Cognita in Spain, the international education group the school is part of, has been appointed Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in recognition for an entire career of services to British education in Spain.

The investiture was presented by His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge in a ceremony that took place at Buckingham Palace in November

Barcelona, 17th December 2019 - Anne McEwan, founder of The British School of Barcelona (BSB), one of the earliest British schools in Spain, has recently been awarded an OBE for services to British education over more than fifty years. The investiture was presented by Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, in Buckingham Palace. Anne McEwan has become a benchmark in the educational sector for her relentless work in favour of the recognition of British schools in Spain and the validation of studies for Spanish students at a time when British schools in the country were an exception.

Anne McEwan’s determination and tireless commitment to the development of BSB as one of the most prestigious international schools in Spain was a determining factor to the growth in provision of high quality, British education in the country. Anne McEwan also became the first woman to preside, for 14 years, the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS), the umbrella body which represents the sector. Her leadership and strategic vision have helped create opportunities for children and young people of all nationalities to prepare for the future. This British Honour is testimony to a truly exceptional indefatigable career for services to education for over five decades.

At present Anne McEwan is Education Advisor for Cognita Spain, the international education group of which BSB is part along with more than 70 Cognita schools in 10 countries worldwide. Anne McEwan is still an active member of the NABSS Executive Committee.

Each year, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is awarded to outstanding individuals in recognition of truly exceptional service to Great Britain. The Honours List includes representatives of a range of fields such as education, arts, sport, science, charity and voluntary work, child welfare and more.
