Castelldefels to California:

The Castelldefels Paseo (promenade), which started its construction in 1993, is a wonderful place to stroll, skate or cycle along and is a vital part of the ambience and economy of the town. In November it started its final phase of development. The occasion was marked by the town council who laid a time capsule, outlining the history of the project, within the foundations. The stretch between L’Avinguda Republic Argentina and Carrer Penyeta Roja is being widened to 12 meters, making it broader than the other two previous sections. There will be a separate rollerblading and bike lane, new beachside showers, benches, LED lighting and bike racks. The sand dunes will be rebuilt, native plants reinstalled and  invasive plants removed, with the aim of preserving the natural ecology of the coastline. New palm trees will be added to grace the strip and the sea side parking will be relocated to three new bigger capacity car parks off the seafront. After negotiation with the neighbourhood it has been agreed that the summer Chiringuitos will move further onto the sand, past the sand dunes. The work will take 10- 12 months to complete, although the Paseo will be open by the summer season. The 2.2 million euro project is being funded mainly by the Spanish government department for Agriculture, Food and the Environment.
